Ben Cookson owned and operated the former Ben Cookson, Inc. (general contractor) and Goshen Sand & Gravel. Ben Cookson purchased the Marion 111-M in the early 1980's from Anthony Mining of Richmond, Ohio for sand & gravel production, along Ohio 416 South of New Philadelphia, Ohio. Anthony Mining used the Marion 111-M for surface mining of coal in the Richmond, Ohio area.
Marion 111-M Dragline news:
Dal Waterson/Waterson Mining donated Cable & parts for the Marion 111-M dragline. Casey Miller and Bryan Coulson with a truck provided by Titus Schlabach transported a number of the parts to the HCRHP grounds. Ryan Keesey with Cravat Coal Company’s service truck unloaded the parts and Cable. Ray Miller, Casey Miller, and Steve Netta picked up some additional parts in September 2006.
Mechanical work was done on the Marion 111-M dragline in 2005 and 2006.
Steve Netta member purchased new electrical wiring for the dragline and additional wire was donated by Otto Electric. Wiring work was done during the summers of 2005 and 2006 by Tom Saffell, Steve Netta, and Casey Miller. New Hoist and drag cables put on. One was donated and the HCRHP had to purchase the other. The air compressor needed replaced and a used one that was donated was used to replace it. Mike Collette, Cody Collette, Steve Netta, Ray Miller, Casey Miller, and Bill Pugh helped with the mechanical work. Some needed welding was done by Titus Schlabach and the bucket was attached after the cables was replaced.
The Marion 111-M Dragline was in operation for the first time since being acquired during the 3 rd Annual Old Construction & Surface Mining Equipment Show until a mechanical failure with the exciter on Saturday.
The exciter was tested and the armature had a short in the wiring. The HCRHP got prices from various companies that perform the work needed. The repair work was done by the lowest quote.
The repair work was done in time for the Marion 111-M to be in operation both days of the 4 th Annual Old Construction & Surface Mining Equipment Show.
